WASHINGTON, DC: Rep. Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) announced the award of a $79,784 federal grant to SHORE UP! Inc., located in Salisbury. The grant was awarded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Office of Rural Development.
SHORE UP! is a private, non-profit Community Action Partnership that has been serving the Eastern Shore for over 45 years. According to SHORE UP!, their main focus is to help people reach economic self-sufficiency. SHORE UP is an acronym for “Self-Help on Rural Economics and Urban Problems.”
The funds will be administered through the Housing Preservation Grants program. According to USDA, the grant will specifically be used “to repair and rehabilitate the homes of low and very-low income residents in Wicomico, Worcester and Somerset Counties in Maryland. Funds will enable Shore Up!, Inc. to offer low income homeowners grants and/or low interest loans for critical home repair projects designed to improve their living conditions. Because of this investment, homes repaired will then meet current property and safety standards.”
Rep. Andy Harris made the following statement:
“As a member of the Agriculture Subcommittee of the Committee on Appropriations, I applaud the award of this federal grant to SHORE UP!. I appreciate their efforts to help people become economically self-sufficient, and this federal investment will help families and local communities on the Eastern Shore. I understand rural America needs these investments to grow and thrive, and I am committed to supporting our local communities.”
